Dealmaking among U.S. hospitals and health systems posted another year of growth in 2011, according to Modern Healthcare's 18th annual mergers-and-acquisitions report. Transactions rose 3.4%, with experts saying healthcare organizations are looking at acquisitions, realignments or joint-venture strategies to stay competitive in a rapidly changing industry. “People are saying, ‘We just can't do this alone any more,' ” one observer said.
